Idea about Ideas

What if all ideas were actually someone else’s? It never fails: when you have an idea, it pops up the next day in something you’re reading, watching, listening to, etc. What if all the subconsciousness thoughts of every person on Earth (and off it) were all connected through… I don’t know, but something. Just something to think about. You think, “Hey, wouldn’t it be great to have an umbrella that has wheels, so you don’t have to carry it?” Then, right on cue (and the next commercial break), you see an advertisement for that exact same motorized umbrella! Scary. Our ideas aren’t ours anymore!

  1. No wonder my novel ideas never seem to be very original…

    • I know. I just watched a movie that totally ripped off my second novel… except we had never come into contact with each other.

      • Yeah. I’m rather paranoid of talking about my novels, because the last thing I want to hear is, “Oh, that sounds just like such-and-such-novel!” Well, that, or that my novel idea sounds terrible. I’m not sure which would be worse.

      • Indeed.
